3 New HBO Max Movies With Over 90 Percent on Rotten Tomatoes (July 2025)

Although HBO Max added a lot of movies in July, very few score over 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Even newly arrived classics like Dances with Wolves with Kevin Costner, The Big Lebowski and Get Shorty with John Travolta couldn’t make that cut.

Fortunately, there are three new HBO Max movies with over 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

It may surprise you to hear that two of those films are horror movies. The remaining pick is an unconventional romance set during an unforgiving time.

    ‘Get Out’ (2017)

    Rotten Tomatoes rank: 98 percent

It was more than just good fortune that Jordan Peele‘s directorial debut, Get Out, turned out to be one of the all-time great horror movies. Peele’s script taps into something very real and constructs a horror premise around it that’s almost impossible to predict if the twist of the movie isn’t already known.

Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya) knows something is off from the beginning when he accompanies his white girlfriend, Rose Armitage (Allison Williams), on a weekend trip to meet her wealthy family and their affluent friends. Everyone is overly friendly toward Chris, and the only other Black man there, Logan King (LaKeith Stanfield), acts oddly. By the time Chris figures out what’s going on, he may never be able to go home again.

Get Out is streaming on HBO Max.

    ‘Carol’ (2015)

    Rotten Tomatoes rank: 94 percent

Carol Aird (Cate Blanchett) is facing the end of her marriage in the movie that shares her first name. However, Carol isn’t mourning her relationship with Harge (Kyle Chandler). She’s more concerned that he will expose her homosexuality and retain full custody of their daughter. Since the story takes place in the 1950s, that scandal could destroy Carol’s life.

HBO Max is having a terrific 2025. From the debut of The Pitt in January to the recent return of The Gilded Age and And Just Like That, the Warner Bros.-owned streamer has been cranking out hit after hit. That’s not going to stop in July. HBO Max just unveiled next month’s content lineup, and […]

And yet Carol can’t resist throwing caution to the wind when she meets a younger woman, Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara). Therese isn’t really into her boyfriend, Richard Semco (Jake Lacy), and eagerly returns Carol’s romantic feelings. But if these two stay together, the consequences may be immense for both of them.

Carol is streaming on HBO Max.

    ‘Sinners’ (2025)

    Rotten Tomatoes rank: 97 percent

Ryan Coogler‘s first stab at horror has been one of the biggest surprises of 2025. Sinners has already defied the odds by out-grossing several of this summer’s most anticipated movies. Plus, it turned out to be a stroke of genius to cast Michael B. Jordan in a dual role as twin brothers, Elijah “Smoke” Moore and Elias “Stack” Moore.

The Smokestack twins thought they had seen everything during World War I and their stint working for the Chicago mafia. But nothing prepares them for the evil they encounter when their juke joint is targeted by vampires. One of the unholy bloodsuckers is Mary (Hailee Steinfeld), a woman who used to be Stack’s lover.

Sinners will stream on HBO Max on July 4.
