Isak could feature for Liverpool against Manchester City but Alisson set for spell out

Alexander Isak could make his return for Liverpool in their FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City after resuming full training following a lengthy injury layoff.

The striker has been sidelined for more than three months after suffering a broken leg in December, which required surgery. He has now returned to training and is being considered for a limited role in Saturday’s tie.

Head coach Arne Slot suggested Isak could feature briefly, though the potential for extra time complicates the decision.

“It will take a bit of time to give him a lot of minutes but we will do the right thing in terms of building up his minutes,” Slot said.

“It is a difficult one because we don’t play a normal game. It could go to extra time so that makes it even more complicated, if we think he can only play 10 minutes and bring him on and then it goes to extra time.

“Maybe a few minutes, but let’s wait and see how he is and how he feels about it himself.

“It’s clear after two training sessions in 100 days, it would not make any sense to start him tomorrow.”

Isak’s injury came after a challenge from Micky van de Ven during a match against Tottenham, where he scored in a 2-1 win prior to being ruled out.

Elsewhere, Liverpool will still be without goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who remains sidelined and is not expected back until later in the season.

However, Mohamed Salah is fit and available, potentially marking his first appearance since confirming he will leave the club at the end of the campaign.

“For the club, maybe, but for Mo it doesn’t matter if he’s going to leave or if he’s going to stay,” Slot added.

“That’s what he’s shown in all these years, that he was always available in his best possible shape, and that doesn’t change now he’s leaving.

“I would hope he could give even more but that’s not realistic, because he always gave everything he had and he will try doing that until the end of the season.”
