Some former Toronto Maple Leafs players are being linked to Leafs front office positions

Leafs Morning Take: David Pagnotta mentions that Mats Sundin isn’t the only former Toronto Maple Leafs player that they’ve spoken too about a front office position. Gary Roberts was brought up in the past couple of days, and Tie Domi‘s name has come up.

“We know about Sundin. Sundin and Pelly, I believe, had dinner on Sunday. Wouldn’t surprise me if other individuals, former Leafs, kind of come into the mix in some fashion, on the managerial side or front office side, I should say, more than anything.

Started to hear Tie Domi’s name kind of bandied about this week, as well, as maybe somebody that’s going to join Mats Sundin and maybe bring in somebody else. (Gary) Roberts, his name is out there too.

So it looks like we’re getting towards the finish line. Which is interesting, because remember, at the press conference, Keith Kelly said, ‘Perfect world, middle of May,’ he finds his guy. Worst case, first week of June.

Toronto Maple Leafs – Potential Free Agent and GM Candidates

I mean, everybody kind of thought that was a long kind of timeframe, and that’s obviously been escalated. (inaudible) in Jersey. You got Vancouver, that we anticipated make a GM change. They’re starting our interviews this week as well. And Nashville is near, nearing the finish line on their front. I think they met with Fitzgerald (Tuesday).

So with all these teams making decisions, Toronto’s got to kind of firm things up relatively quickly here.”

Michael Mazzei of The Leafs Nation: Darren Dreger said on TSN’s First Up on Monday that the Maple Leafs have spoken with Gary Roberts about a potential front office role.

“I’ve heard that Gary Roberts, who’s done terrific work around the National Hockey League and major junior. His development of the sports science platform, the continuation of training some of these top-level NHL stars. I mean, why wouldn’t you have a conversation with a local guy like Gary Roberts?”
