Before Bowen Byram was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, has agent was talking to some teams, and the price got as high as $14 million

Puck Pedia: Agent Darren Ferris said when talking to some teams about what Bowen Byram was looking for, one team went as high as $14 million.

Host: “Your big move this offseason, Bowen Byram. So he still had one year left. You signed that extension with Kevin Adams. It was a two-year deal. Buffalo made a change during the season to Jarmo Kakalinen as general manager. It seemed like Bowen Byram wanted a situation where he could have the potential to be the number one defenseman.”

Ferris: “That whole setup for Bo started back when he signed his two-year extension, his bridge deal. At that time, I think if we would have went to arbitration, we would have got five and a half a year at the most.

Jarmo came in the pitcher, and he understands the business. He understands Bo wanted to play more, and unfortunately, the path wasn’t there for him. Jarmo really wanted to keep them, but just didn’t have the the cap space, and the opportunity came.

It Feels Like There Is At Least One Big Trade Out There This Offseason

Jarmo had tons of interest in a trade. He had, had possible trade on the table, and gave the team permission to have a conversation with me to see exactly where the dollars were once he had his trade possibility in hand.”

Host: “Because a lot of those trade prices, right, are kind of like with the thinking that he’ll hopefully extend there. Like they’re not going to pay this premium to get him for just one more season.”

Ferris: “And he had the opportunity, you know, to sign $14 million with one team. But anyway, it ended up being Chicago. Resulted in 12.5 a year with a full no-move clause, so that you’re not traded partway through to, because there is a tax benefit in, in Chicago.”
