Cutter Gauthier rejects an Anaheim Ducks offer?

Paul Shaheen: A reliable source said that the Anaheim Ducks offered RFA forward Cutter Gauthier a four-year contract at $13 million, and he rejected it.

The Ducks currently have just over $9 million in cap space.

Jordan Staal is entering the final year of his contract

Tom Gulitti of NHL.com: Carolina Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal will be 38 next month and is entering the final year of his contract. Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky isn’t sure what the future holds yet for Staal beyond this season, but they’ll eventually talk about it to see if he wants to continue playing, and with the Hurricanes.

“Jordan is an essential part of the fabric of our team, and I anticipate that we will be trying to keep him here for as long as he wants to play. We have not yet really talked about what lies beyond this year, but we will get to that. I will reach out to him and his agent at some point and see how they want to handle it.”

Does bringing back Ben Hutton make sense for the Vancouver Canucks

Sekeres and Price: Blake Price and Patrick Johnston talk about the idea of the Vancouver Canucks bringing free agent defenseman Ben Hutton back to the organization.

Price: “The possibility of Ben Hutton coming back to help fortify the defense. I don’t know of all the free agents, you know, again, you’re talking about a number six or a defenseman. I don’t know that that that style of defense.

Never mind that he has history with the Canucks. ‘Hey, he’s a fun guy. He’s got a great smile.’ But I just don’t know that, that his profile is exactly, the Canucks have those defensemen. They need, don’t they need defensive defensemen, stalwarts?”

Johnston: “Yeah, I mean he’s, listen, he was good enough to stick around a, you know, outstanding roster in Vegas, right? Like, No. Listen, given what they need, you know, they need NHL bodies, and he’s, I think, still an NHL body.

NHL Rumors: Not Much Ado About Quinn Hughes and More

You’re not wrong. He doesn’t like move the meter, but they’re not in looking for guys to move the meter. They’re looking for guys that are going to work hard and be good characters. And you know, he, if, you know, given, given how little he played at times in Vegas, and still kept his chin up. You know, I think that’s the kind of guy you want, right?”
