The Detroit Red Wings continue to scout the Minnesota Wild. Against the Buffalo Sabres, interim GM Shawn Horcoff scouted the Wild, while new director of professional scouting Kris Draper was in Tampa to see the Wild play the Lightning.
NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings; Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson
Dylan Larkin‘s number one destination is no secret: the Minnesota Wild. He wants to play with Quinn Hughes. In Minnesota, Larkin would be a number one center, as he is in Detroit. But Detroit doesn’t want futures for Larkin; they want NHL players in return to stay competitive.
But the Wild have been his number one option, followed by the Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, and a couple of others.
Elliotte Friedman joined NHL Network on Friday with Jamison Coyle, Brian Boyle, and Mike Rupp, and they discussed the link between the Minnesota Wild, Dylan Larkin, and the Detroit Red Wings.

Brian Boyle: “Elliotte, where do the Minnesota Wild fit in all this? You see the executives from Detroit at, I guess, back-to-back games. You know, Bill Guerin’s always up to something. Where would they might fit in all this?”
Simon Edvinsson, and the Detroit Red Wings Ownership was warned about the Dylan Larkin return
Elliotte Friedman: “Well, first of all, I think that, look, they’ve been linked. This is not a secret, Brian. As everybody knows, the Wild lust after Dylan Larkin. Everybody knows that one of the original teams that Larkin would agree to be traded to was the Minnesota Wild. So I think that it’s only normal. And the other thing too, Brian, is look, if Minnesota had 100% of what Detroit wanted, or Minnesota made available 100% of what Detroit wanted, this deal would be done already.
So what you have, Brian, is we believe there’s a couple young players from Minnesota who are central to the deal. One is (Danila) Yurov, one is (Charlie) Stramel. And I have no doubt that one of the things the Red Wings are doing is watching these players to see, okay, if we’re going to acquire them, how close are they? How much of an impact do we think they can make now?
What Direction Will the Detroit Red Wings Choose; Rebuild or Stay the Course?
And if I was working for Detroit, I would make sure that there were important eyes from the Red Wings at every one of their games because if you do make this deal, you have to get it right.”
Again, if the Wild and Red Wings can agree on the price and Larkin knows Quinn Hughes is staying in Minnesota, this deal can happen pretty quickly. But expect the Red Wings to keep scouting Minnesota Wild games moving forward.
The Detroit Red Wings have to get this trade right to avoid a ripple effect.
