Filip Hrgovic has given his assessment on Fabio Wardley‘s performance in his knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois.
Wardley fought Dubois in a rematch for the WBO heavyweight title at The O2 Arena in London, five months on from losing the belt via 11th round TKO.
Dubois got the job done much quicker this time around, dropping Wardley in the opening round before going on to claim the second round knockout win.
There were concerns heading into the bout that Wardley may be taking the rematch too soon, and it appears that Hrgovic shared those fears, as he explained in a media scrum that the Ipswich man ‘didn’t look good’ from the first bell.
“I was not impressed. Wardley didn’t look good from the beginning. Something wasn’t right. It was an easy job for Daniel. The fight was too soon. He received a lot of damage in the first fight and not everyone is Hrgovic. Not everyone has that granite chin.
Hrgovic went on to discuss a possible unification fight with Dubois, after the pair faced off in the ring following the bout and ‘DDD’ made it clear he would like that bout next.
“I want to fight him. He’s fresh and doesn’t have injuries so he’s ready to fight in March with me. After the Moses fight, a fight with me and Daniel will be slow motion. Moses is 10 times quicker than Dubois. He’s a little slow.
“He’s strong and has a good jab. It’s a tough fight, a good fight but I believe I will beat him. I will stop him definitely. I almost stopped him in the first fight. I was sick, injured and cut since round one. He was headbutting me, I just think I will destroy him in the next fight.”
While Dubois was victorious when he fought Hrgovic back in June 2024, the Croatian is clearly confident that he will be able to write that wrong in a second meeting.
