Evander Kane’s agent has permission to talk to teams about a trade

Rick Dhaliwal: Dan Milstein, the agent for Vancouver Canucks forward Evander Kane, has permission to talk to teams to help facilitate a trade.

Jeff Paterson: “Sit him out now. Acquiring teams don’t need to see more. They know what they’re getting. Protect the asset and make space for younger players in the line-up.”

NHLRumors.com Note: The 34-year-old is in the last year of his contract, carrying a $5.125 million cap hit and a $4 million salary. has a 16-team trade list. The Canucks sent the Oilers a fourth-round pick last June for Kane. He scored nine goals and added 15 assists in 52 games.

No talks between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Scott Laughton yet

The Fourth Period: David Pagnotta reported on Monday that the Toronto Maple Leafs need to find a way to keep pending UFA forward Scott Laughton, but there haven’t been any meaningful talks between the two sides as of yet.

“They have not had any meaningful discussions or negotiations with respect to an extension,” Pagnotta said. “I think there’s an understanding that they would like to have those discussions. He’s already proven to be a glue guy in the room … but they haven’t had those in-depth contract discussions yet with his camp.”

The Detroit Red Wings have the advantage of lots of salary cap space to work with

DFO Rundown: Jeff Marek on the Detroit Red Wings and their ability to not worry about cap hit because of their favourable salary cap position.

“And that’s where I look at a team like the Detroit Red Wings, who have loads of cap space like this is, this is an advantage, Yzerman year, right? Because the amount of cap space that the Detroit Red Wings have is nearing ungodly.

NHL Rumors: Canadiens, Red Wings, Penguins, and the Mammoth

Like, they can do whatever they want when they want pretty much. And that, that’s an advantage, right? Like, if you’re competing with another team for the services of a player, ‘Hey, we’ll take him now.’ We’ll take the three weeks. That’s fine. We’ll take it. We can pay it. No problem. That’s an advantage and a luxury that the Red Wings have, that other, that other teams flat out don’t.

And you can be sure, yeah, the, the Red Wings will be, then the Red Wings will be very much in the market, and they already are. Red Wings are very much in the market, one forward, one defenseman. Does Yzerman get both? We’ll see.”
