CBS’ Yellowstone spinoff about Kayce Dutton has changed its show name months before the series premiere.

Y: Marshals, which is scheduled to premiere on March 1, will now be known as just Marshals. The change comes ahead of the show’s highly-anticipated debut, which will reintroduce Luke Grimes‘ character after the events of the original Paramount+ series.

According to the official synopsis, Marshals follows Kayce leaving “ranching life behind to join an elite unit” of U.S. Marshals. While “combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”

In addition to Grimes, 41, the show stars Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Brett Cullen and Logan Marshall Green. Kebbel, Santos and Means will play Belle, Andrea and Miles, respectively. They are all members of the U.S. Marshals while Cullen plays Harry Gifford, the head of the U.S. Marshals in Montana.

The next stop in the Yellowstone universe is a spinoff starring Luke Grimes’ character, Kayce Dutton. Yellowstone became a household name when it premiered on Paramount+ in 2018. It introduced Us to the fictional Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in Montana. After finding success with the drama series, creator Taylor Sheridan grew the Yellowstone world with subsequent spinoffs.

While Marshals is focused on Kayce’s life, fans have questioned whether the show will introduce some onscreen changes. Kayce’s relationship with wife Monica Dutton has been called into question after actress Kelsey Asbille was missing from all the sneak peeks — and has yet to be announced as a cast member. (Kayce and Monica’s son, Tate (Brecken Merrill), will appear in the CBS offshoot.)

Ahead of Marshals’ premiere on CBS, Grimes reflected on having his time as Kayce come to an end on Yellowstone.

“On the last day of shooting, I thought it was my last day as Kayce. It was over to me,” Grimes recalled in an interview with People in June 2025. “It was seven years of playing a person that I’ll never see again, except for having his hat and jacket in my closet. It wasn’t until probably three or four months after that that everything started aligning for the [spinoff].”

Grimes recalled being affected by his time as Kayce.

“[It was] a lot bigger of a life moment than I thought it would be,” he noted. “To try to put that show away, it was hard. It was really hard, and I know this is going to sound weird, but it was sort of emotional. It was like losing a family in a way.”

It was even harder to say goodbye to the rest of the cast and crew. “Nobody wanted it to be over,” Grimes said. “I don’t think the fans wanted it to be over. A lot of us actors kind of didn’t want it to be over, and the studio and network certainly didn’t want it to be over.”

Marshals premieres on CBS March 1 and will air on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.
