Jaron Ennis is on a mission to claim the undisputed super-welterweight title, but there is another world champion seeking to achieve that same goal. Now, the target on Ennis’ back has become abundantly clear.
Ennis claimed the WBA and WBO super-welterweight titles by knocking out Xander Zayas in June, halting the Puerto Rican in one of the standout contests of 2026 thus far, despite it lasting only six rounds.
Following that win, Ennis is now set to take on IBF super-welterweight champion Josh Kelly for a three-belt unification bout, which is anticipated to take place in January.
Speaking with Premier Boxing Champions, reigning WBC super-welterweight titleholder Sebastian Fundora revealed plans for a showdown with Ennis, ideally for the undisputed title, seeking to prove that he is the ‘best at 154lbs’.
“I definitely do want to fight Ennis next, that is if he wins and if that fight becomes with Kelly. I mean, that would be a fight for undisputed.
“If he doesn’t fight for the unified title with Kelly, I still would want to fight him next because he has two of the belts.
“I think that I am the best at 154lbs, I definitely think that I am the best at 154lbs. There are a lot of people that definitely think that too, but this fight it here to make and I think that is one of the biggest fights, right here at 154.”
Before Fundora can focus too much attention on ‘Boots’, he must first overcome mandatory challenger, Ermal Hadribeaj, whom he faces on Saturday, October 17, at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
