Manny Pacquiao says Floyd Mayweather should have a loss on his record: “Watch that fight back”

Ahead of a reported rematch, Manny Pacquiao is unconvinced by Floyd Mayweather’s claims that he is the greatest fighter of all time, and has even questioned his famous 50-0 record.

Back in 2015, Pacquiao became the 48th name of Mayweather’s resume, losing by unanimous decision in Las Vegas on a night where the main event underwhelmed but the finances soared.

It is for that reason Netflix has backed a rematch between the pair, set for later this year, but under increased scrutiny since Mayweather has u-turned on the initial announcement.

Speaking to Vibe, Pacquiao said that the fight is contractually agreed. He then dismissed Mayweather’s claim as the best of all time, saying that others had retired undefeated before him and will again. In fact, the Filipino icon does not even believe that should be the case for his rival, saying he lost to Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.

“I think the fight with Oscar De La Hoya, he lost it. Review it. I know what boxing is, and if you review and watch the fight, Floyd lost. Very clear, so watch that.”

Mayweather faced Oscar De La Hoya in Las Vegas in what was, at the time, the biggest fight in the sport.

The fight was competitive early, with De La Hoya using his jab and size, but Mayweather adjusted as it went on, landing the cleaner, more accurate work down the stretch. He took a split decision to win the title and, in doing so, replaced ‘The Golden Boy’ as boxing’s leading commercial draw.

De La Hoya has long since criticised Mayweather for not taking a contractual rematch clause, accusing him of a well-timed retirement and comeback to avoid it.

If that was the case, the American icon could face similar accusations in 2026, as it is looking increasingly like the Pacquiao rematch – despite his comments – is in jeopardy.
