Morgan Frost has been in the rumor mill, but should the Calgary Flames look at extending him?
Travis Yost of TSN: The Calgary Flames are a little thin down the middle. Ryan Strome is entering the final year of his contract at a $5 million cap hit, and will likely be moved by the trade deadline. Mikael Backlund has a two-year deal and a no-movement clause, but teams could be calling at the deadline as well.
Morgan Frost will be a UFA after the season and will get trade interest, but wonders if a contract extension would be the in the best interest of both sides. He’s coming off a career year with 22 goals and 43 points. He may not put up huge offense numbers to drive his price up in Calgary, but he could be a middle-six center on most teams. A good start to the season could have GM Craig Conroy calling about an extension.

Would the Florida Panthers be a fit for Patrik Laine?
George Richards of Florida Hockey Now: The Florida Panthers may have a forward roster spot open as Brad Marchand recovers from surgery. Patrik Laine could be one option to fill that roster spot. He scored 40-goals under Paul Maurice back with the Winipeg Jets. He’s also knows Aleksander Barkov from their days in Tampere, Finland.
The 28-year-old Laine could have to take a PTO to get into a teams training camp next month. He was limited to only five games last year with Montreal. If the Panthers put Marchand on the LTIR, it would give them a bit of cap space to work with. The Panthers may decide to give Sandis Vilmanis a shot on the third line with Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen while Marchand it out.

Colby Cohen: “That is a place you want to be, whether you’re an athlete or not. We gotta figure hockey out in Arizona. We’re gonna do it in the USHL, and we’re gonna do it very successfully. The NHL will come back.”
