What about the Montreal Canadiens adding Owen Tippett, and what might it cost?
The Starr & D’Amico Show: Shaun Starr and Marco D’Amico discuss the idea of the Montreal Canadiens trading for Philadelphia Flyers Owen Tippett and what it might cost the Canadiens.
** NHLRumors.com transcription
Starr: “You know, I don’t think Michael Hage is part of this conversation, not for me at least. When it comes to a guy like, if they really set their sights on Owen Tippett.”
D’Amico: “No, no, no. And I think that’s the, I think that’s also.”
Starr: “But what would they want, though? Like, I mean.”
NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Dallas Stars
D’Amico: “(Alexander) Zharovsky. It would, it would be, it would be a Zharovsky or a (Oliver) Kapanen, an (Adam) Engstrom. I’ll tell you, one player is the Philadelphia Flyers, very like, very much like, and that’s Arbor Xhekaj. Obviously, a first-round pick potentially would have to be. Like, that’s what I’m talking about. But they would want young players that they can plug and play.”
Starr: “Sure, right.”
D’Amico: “Kapanen to me would be an easy, easy player to go and get for them, like include in a package like that. Zharovsky, same concept. If you, if you get an Owen Tippett, do you need Zhoravsky?
And Philadelphia is one of the few teams that does spend a lot of time in Russia. In terms of, in terms of not in terms of boots on the ground, but in terms of studying the league and knowing these kinds of players. So you know they’re really good at pulling out the Russian goaltenders. So I would expect them to, to have a good amount of data on Zhoravsky.
That would, that would, all that would make a ton of sense because again, I don’t think that we talked about it on, in the previous episode; I don’t think that, that would put a clock on the Canadiens’ compete window.”
Starr: “Right. Yeah, Yeah.”
D’Amico: “It would just prolong it because you have a cost-controlled player that fits the timeline of your team, that I think would be a smart, sneaky acquisition. Because right now, if you look at the Hockey DB page, when it comes to a guy like Tippett, it’s goals. It’s, it’s mostly goals, and you see it. It’s 28 goals, 20 goals, 28 goals, 27 goals, but then 23 assists, 25 assists, 22 assists. So career high has only been 53 points. I feel like he busts right through that on a team like Montreal.”
Starr: “I do, outside of the 53 points, I love the goal totals. Love the goal totals.”
D’Amico: “Well, and again, but you want a finisher on this team? Like every time people keep saying they want a guy that doesn’t hesitate when they shoot. Owen Tippett does not hesitate when he shoots.”
Starr: “Yeah.”
What is Going on with the Philadelphia Flyers?
D’Amico: “And I feel like he brings that build. You want to, you want to be more physical? I’m not saying he’s a bruiser, not way, not in any way, shape, or form. But he is a throwback, like, power forward in the same way that (Max) Pacioretty was. Where he can beat you with the speed. It’s very hard to contain Owen Tippett when he’s in motion.”
