Connor Hellebuyck’s Expanded Trade List Puts Winnipeg Jets in Different Situation Than Detroit with Dylan Larkin
Jim Biringer of NHLRumors.com and Full Press NHL joined TSN Radio in Montreal on Friday and was asked about the situation in Winnipeg with Connor Hellebuyck, whether it falls into the Dylan Larkin category of trade requests, and potential landing spots.

Host: “So, Connor Hellebuyck- kind of word was out on him already. Now it’s official. So, Jim, how does this play out with him and the Jets? They kind of fall into that category with Dylan Larkin. It’s become very popular now that a lot of fans and members of the media are like talking, like, “Hey, if you want to walk in and you want to get traded, you got to expand that no-trade list or void that no-trade list. You take a trade to wherever you want.
Which, if I were a general manager, I would definitely have that in everybody else’s contract. You got a no-trade clause? No problem. You got a list? No problem. The moment you walk into my office, you want out. Things change because he could help the Winnipeg Jets here if you could open up the search. We don’t know enough about that limited search for Connor Hellebuyck, if there’s a couple of landing spots that you think would be ideal for him, where would that be?”
Jim Biringer: “Yeah, so we know that Connor Hellebuyck, unlike Dylan Larkin, probably has a bigger list. Dylan Larkin is what, three teams, which is really one team, the Minnesota Wild. Connor Hellebuyck, we know he wants to go to the Buffalo Sabres. They had to trade in place. Kind of that fell apart at the draft, right?
Dylan Larkin to the Montreal Canadiens makes sense but would he go?
So he’s willing to go to Buffalo. Where else is he willing to go? Well, let’s figure it out. Florida, Vegas. I put San Jose on that list. I would put Detroit on that list too because guess what? Oh, one of his teammates is there: Dylan Larkin. Does that turn the Dylan Larkin trade rumors around? Now does he want to say if they get him a goaltender of that calibre?
What about Carolina? Could they move a guy like Alexander Nikishin to Winnipeg? They’ve talked about a deal before. There’s a lot more options with Connor Hellebuyck because teams can use a two-time Vezina trophy winner, a Hart trophy winner, a gold medalist goalie in the playoffs.
So there are more options. Dylan Larkin’s limiting himself.”
NHLRumors.com Note: Unlike Dylan Larkin in Detroit, Connor Hellebuyck gave everything he had to the Winnipeg Jets. He wants to win; he made that clear with his end-of-the-season comments. But Hellebuyck understands how important he is, and he can change the fate of many contending teams. Larkin just wants to play with his friend, who is currently on the team he only wants to join.

However, the Winnipeg Jets will wait to get what they want in a trade. We have seen with disgruntled players Patrik Laine and Pierre-Luc Dubois that GM Kevin Cheveldayoff has done pretty well with the returns. So while both guys want to win, Hellebuyck has a bigger trade list, which makes his situation different from Larkin’s.
